Become a member

Join with the leaders of the industry by becoming a dues paying member of the United States Seafood Industry Association today.

Eligibility for membership

Membership in the United States Seafood Industry Association is open to all persons, businesses, and organizations that depend on seafood harvested from America’s fisheries.  This includes harvesters, offloading facilities, wholesalers, equipment and supply manufacturers, maintenance and other service providers, partner trade associations, restaurants, retailers, vessel Captains and crew members, seafood business employees, and non-industry associate businesses.

The United States Seafood Industry Association is a 501(c)(6) trade association pursuant to the Internal Revenue Code.  Accordingly, we do not accept memberships or other contributions from persons, businesses, or organizations that are not a part of the U.S. domestic seafood industry and/or their relatives, employees, or seafood consumers.  We reserve the right to request additional information, if necessary, to verify a prospective members bona fide connection to the U.S. seafood industry, and to refuse membership at the discretion of our Board of Directors.

Dues assessments and member segments

Membership in USSIA is for a twelve-month period.  This means that members pay dues like a magazine subscription (i.e. from July 2017 to June 2018), and not on a calendar year basis.

USSIA invoices membership dues quarterly.  When paying quarterly dues, you can choose to prepay for the entire year and are rewarded with an extra month (13 months total) in return for increasing USSIA’s financial security (our “baker’s dozen discount”).

Needs-based dues accommodation

Our dues are designed to be affordable and are based on the size and type of member.  However, because our industry spans the globe from Guam to the U.S. Virgin Islands and has members from single individuals to large corporations, it is inevitable that some segments of the industry may not be fairly accommodated in our dues structure.  Therefore, USSIA will make needs-based dues accommodations when warranted.  We don’t want to exclude anybody who wants to be part of truly shaping the future of the industry.

Federal income tax notice

Dues, contributions, or gifts to the United States Seafood Industry Association are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes. However, they may be tax deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.  For tax year 2017, we estimate that 10% of dues will be related to our lobbying activities.  Please consult your tax advisor.
